Today was just a wonderful day and I am so thankful that I was able to spend it with your fantastic children. They absolutely loved the whole experience provided by Goodwood Farm and not only learned a lot, but were able to really be children! They held baby lambs, led a calf nibble their fingers, ran about in the woods with sticks and marvelled at the size of tractor wheels. They planted wheat and smelled the slurry and the silage. They asked what happened to the animals when they got old, and when they found out, the decided they still REALLY liked burgers and bolognaise. The sun shone for the whole day and we delighted in woods of primroses and snowdrops, crows building their nests and spotting rabbit holes and badger setts.

We found out so much about the soil we walk on and the animals we eat, as well as the breeds specific to this area.

Tomorrow we will be spending the morning doing some free flow learning around our South Downs theme, then off to the forest once more!

If you would like to see any of the photos in full scale, please ask Mrs Wiggs.

Safer Internet Week, Child Mental Health and Chinese New Year!

Once again we have been hard at work in Ash Class. Last week we marked Chinese New Year with a day of celebration with Oak Class. During the morning the children prepared fresh vegetables which were then stir fried by the adults. After play we ate the delicious vegetables, along with some spring rolls, prawn crackers and a variety of noodles. All the children were brilliant at trying the foods and lots of them absolutely loved them! During the afternoon we joined forces again to create Chinese dragon puppets, willow pattern plates and engage in Chinese and travel themed role play. As usual, the class loved teaming up with their friends in Oak Class and seeing what had changed in the classroom.

As part of safer internet day we used the tablets in school to record news articles about how to be safe online. The children should be confident talking about some of the risks associated with internet use, so please do talk them about it. It was also Child Mental Health week and we undertook some activities to help us think about the things that we do to make us happy and healthy. This included being outside in the fresh air, playing games, and thinking about our bedtime routine.

This week is our last week with Stacey. After half term we will be having our Forest School time before Mrs Fogden goes on her maternity leave. Please see Mrs Wiggs if you have any questions about this.
