Hi Year 1,
Something has changed today? Can you think what it is? Look at the date…..it’s a new month! February (can you spell it?) and that means three more minutes of light every day!
First your reminders;
😁 Do your best. Sometimes you’ll feel like doing lots of work, and sometimes you won’t. Try and do a little bit everyday but don’t worry if you can’t finish it all. Try not to ignore the learning, and not even try to do it! You can achieve everything I set, I promise.
😁 If you are learning on your own you can practise letter recognition, read, play numbots or go on Spelling Shed – your new list is up.
😁 Maths is in the previous post.
Handwriting – we have now watched all the letter formation videos. If you are still struggling with formation, please revisit them. Now we are going to begin joining the letters together. Watch the video Handwritingfor formation (sorry, I have to hold the tablet and write so it is not always as neat as I would like!) then use the handwriting sheet to help you. Here is a link to the writing repeater which your adult could use. Writing Repeater
So, on to Phonics. This week we are recapping split digraphs, which are quite tricky and we have only had a brief look at. Luckily Mr Thorne has made some videos on the subject, so off we go! Mr Thorne a-e
Once you have done that, please complete the activity from your home learning pack. You will need an adult to play the game, just roll a die and read the word you land on. If your adult is busy, copy each a-e word onto a piece of paper (separately) and then place them over the floor. Challenge yourself to say each word and see how quickly you can find it on the floor. 😁
English – We are going to be looking at instructional writing. This is quite different to story writing and I hope you might enjoy it more!
Your first task is to make a piece of toast, or a bowl of cereal, or any simple food that you can make relatively independently, but watch the video for more…..Instructions for instructions!
PSHE – We are continuing to think about being safe. You have thought about who keeps you safe, how to be safe in the pandemic and during life, and you have thought about how you might react in different scenarios. Today I would like you to think about safety signs. If you are able, please take a short walk with an adult and look at the different road signs that you can see.
What do they mean?
Who are they keeping safe?
Why are they there?
This sheet should help. Road signs
If you can, can you design a different sign to keep people safe? Perhaps you have a dog you want to warn people about, or live down a bumpy road?
Have a lovely day, Mrs Wiggs x
