It has been lovely having all the children back for the summer term, starting at the beginning and, all being well, ending at the end!
This week you should have received your curriculum letter, please note one change – PE will now be on a Friday. Outdoor learning will be as indicated on a Wednesday but children may bring in home clothes suitable for messy play now that the weather is better and they do not need to wear puddle suits. Please may I ask they wear long trousers or leggings for all sessions.

This week the children started their new English text, Toys in Space, which they have enjoyed. They have been freeze framing some of the scenes which you can see below. Great expressions! We have been revisiting addition and subtraction and have been spelling words with the tr blend. Please check spelling shed for this weeks spelling words. We have also started using drawing programmes on the laptops, learned about Stephen Lawrence on Stephen Lawrence day and practiced our running technique in Athletics. In Forest school we learned about squirrels and played a game focussing on memory and geography. Photos below!

Have a great weekend!

A happy week back together

We have had a very happy week back as a whole class, and I have been so pleased by how. Well the children have settled back into the routines. They have managed to survive on only one snack a day and have coped well with the learning and it has been a joy to have the classroom full again.

In English we have looked at blends gl/fl/cl and we are reading The Disgusting Sandwich. In maths we have been measuring using non standard measures.  New spellings have now been added to spelling shed.

Below are a few collages, showing our cooking activity on Thursday, making bread and food tasting for sandwiches, and our Activity time which they children enjoyed in the sunshine at the beginning of the week.

Hi!

I am so sorry my Zoom did not work yesterday, we had real problems with the Internet and it just would not let me go on!

It’s the last day of homeschool! I don’t know how you will feel about that. You might feel a bit scared or nervous about coming back to school, and you might feel a bit sad about leaving your home school teachers. They might also be feeling the same. Try and enjoy your last day of homeschool and perhaps talk about these questions together;

What has been the best thing you have done in homeschool?
What has been the most interesting you’ve learned?
What has been your grownups favourite bit of homeschool?

If you like, have a look at this website and make yourself a superstar certificate. I am very proud of all that you have achieved – and all the teeth you have lost! Golden Generation

Check out your final maths challenge in the previous post.

Phonics – please have a go at your Spelling Shed words which all revisit Phase 3.

Art task – I’d like you to paint a picture of your time in homeschool, like a time capsule. You probably won’t want to keep all the work you’ve done, and you might not even really remember this time when you are as old as me, but if you have this painting it can be one thing you can hang onto and keep to remember this time. Try and draw the room that you have done most of your learning in. Draw who has helped you, draw the things you have used – you could even include some thought bubbles to show what you have learned. When you have completed it, roll it up carefully and put it somewhere safe. Remember to put the date on it!

Finally, your final continent to visit with the Oak Academy. Can you remember which ones have gone before, and one feature of each? For example, Europe is a continent, Italy is in Europe, and I might find the colosseum in Italy!

Antarctica

Have a lovely weekend, I cannot wait to see you on Monday, ready for learning!
Love

Mrs Wiggs xx

Happy World Book Day!

Today is ‘World Book Day’ and it looks a little different to normal. However, your book tokens are waiting at school for you to collect on Monday and can be redeemed at the supermarket or Petworth Bookshop. We are not dressing up today, however, we are taking part in a world book day challenge, set by MRC.

We are going to make models of monsters! Your model could be made of junk (look in the recycling bin) paper (think about what you know about paper engineering, folding and cutting paper and card) or any modelling material such as clay or play doh. If you want to make your own play doh it’s half a cup of water, half a cup of salt and a whole cup of flour, mix it together and colour it with food colour if you like.
Please make your monster as exciting and interesting as you can and send me a picture of it.

Next – Please share a story with someone. You could read it, they could eat it, or you could read to a toy or teddy. Check out this one, on the world book day website Share a story

There are lots of audiobooks available to listen to on the website, here Audiobooks

There are also some live story sessions which you can tune into. Find them here Live story sessions

Now – Choose an online lesson from a real life author! You can choose whichever you like but I would recommend Tom Fletcher as you are probably all familiar with his books Online Author Academy

Finally, if you feel like a reading superstar, please have a look at the reading game and challenges here Reading challenges

There are also lots of fun activities to choose here Activities

Finally…..have a think about these questions;

  • Which has been the best book you have read, and why?
  • Did you prefer The Pied Piper, or The Iron Man, as a class reader?
  • Which is your favourite traditional tale?
  • Can you retell “The Girl, the bear and the magic shoes” from memory?
  • What is your parents favourite book?

Have a great day enjoying stories together,

Love

Sara the snake was queen, she liked to dance and sing.

English – Please continue with your information page.

What type of book are we making?
Can you name three features in this type of text?
Where could you find meanings for words you don’t know?

Science today, and you are going to continue to think about the seasons and weather patterns. Revisiting your Science from last half term….

Handwriting – please continue to practise q and o. If you are revisiting last weeks letters, which four are you doing?

English – please continue with your information book page. You may revisit the resources I posted yesterday for help. Make sure you have a subheading!
Today I would like to know what your monster eats.
Is it: a carnivore? A herbivore? An omnivore?
If you can’t remember what these words mean, please look them up – how will you find out?

PE – this website shows a variety of activities, some of which will be familiar, but which you should be able to access whatever space you have. Please choose at least one and have a go at home. Stacey will be looking at movement and coordination next week.

Hi everyone!

This time next week you will all be back in class and I am really excited! Make sure you do as much learning as you can this week, so you’re ready for school.

Maths is in the previous post.

Handwriting. Using the same lead in (or upstroke) we are going to practice q and o. These are formed in the same way as a,c,d and g which we did last week. Please watch the video for some help. I have chosen some random words at the end, to show you how they join. You don’t have to practice them unless you want to!

Handwriting

Phonics. This will be our final week of revisiting sounds we should know well.
First – can you spell these words?
vote

boat

shell

shorn

tuft

mark

Then, please can you go onto Spelling Shed, where you will find a new list to practice.

English.
Today we are starting our non fiction, information books about Monsters. Here are some quiz cards to help you think about how the writing might be different Quiz cards

What are some of the features of non fiction books? Can you think of three? This poster might help;

First, please come up with your main heading. It could just be “Monsters” or something more elaborate. Then, your first subheading. This should be about where you can find your monster. Will it be under the snow, in a flowerbed, in the fridge?

Then please write a minimum of three sentences about where your monster lives – its habitat. You could use the format below for your text, or design your own.

Information text template

Finally. In PSHE we are going to continue to think about staying safe, but today I would like you to revisit the ways you will stay safe when you return to school. What can you do to keep safe when you come back? What will your mum and dad or carer do to stay safe? What will the school be doing? If you feel anxious about coming back, have a look at this book together and discuss it.

Social story back to school

Have a lovely day,

Morning Ash Class!

Your phonics is continuing to revisit some of the trickier digraphs and trigraphs. Today, we are going to look at the “ure” trigraph. Here is Geraldine the Giraffe to remind you of the sound. Geraldine

Then, please see if you can use these words in a sentence – you mustn’t copy the words from the blog though!

pure

sure

lure

secure

Handwriting. We are continuing to revisit the letters with the “wave” upstroke, the same as the a and c. Today can you practice d and g, as shown below. You have done these before so hopefully you remember.Handwriting

Maths – as previous post.

English – We are going to start thinking about our own monsters, so we can write down some information about them. When you return to school you can bring your information page with you and we will put them all together in a book.

What type of text was the “Monsters” text?
What would you use a dictionary for?

Today, I don’t want you to start writing. I’d like you to draw your monster, perhaps in his habitat. If you would like to create a mind map you can. Think about the subheadings in the original text. Will you write about your monsters diet? His habitat? His hobbies? Make some notes around your picture, if you like.

Geography – yesterday you thought about the seasons;

What season is it?
What changes might you see in the landscape as you look outside?
What will be different in a months time?

Today we are going to think about the landscape around us. I would like you to look out of your highest window perhaps your bedroom. If you would prefer and the weather is fine, you could find a spot outside. I would like you to draw what you can see – what is the landscape?

Can you see buildings?

Can you see gardens or grassy areas?

Can you see fields or areas for farming and agriculture?

Can you see the South Downs?

Can you see any areas for growing, such as allotments?

Make sure your drawing shows everything you can see.
If you are uninspired by your own view, watch this little video and see what you can see as the two people walk about. Everywhere they are is in your doorstep! South Downs

I will hopefully see you at 2.00 for Zoom, if I can get the technology working! Fingers crossed.

PLEASE NOTE, ZOOM DANCE HAS NOW STOPPED.

Love
