Hi Ash Class,

I hope you are all ok and finding new ways to spend your time. We are doing lots of new things at home, but there is a LOT of mess and I am not really enjoying having to tidy it up all the time!

Here are your tasks for Wednesday, I’ve also added a story video just for fun again. Igor story

Maths – one of the things we have been doing is practising counting to 50. You can practise this easily at home. You can just count, you can play number tennis, you can count handfuls of Lego, or pieces of pasta, or pens in a pot. You can play games on the computer or board games like snakes and ladders. So the learning for today is to have a go at counting to 50. If you feel confident, have a go at the sheets below. If you find them tricky, don’t worry, set them aside, spend some time practising, and then try them again another day.

Please find the worksheets here. Remember, you don’t have to print them out, you can just write the answers in your book.

Bronze Ash

Silver Ash

Gold Ash

Remember, there are many ways to practise counting. If you don’t fancy the worksheet try answering some questions like these….

How many teddies do you have?

How many clouds are in the sky today?

How many socks can you find?
You can then try counting on in ones from that number…

English

I’ve uploaded a short handwriting video. Please have a go. It’s not quite as good as the writing repeater but it should remind you of the formation. Sorry it is upside down, it seems to be beyond me to balance the iPad on the thermos flask and record it the correct way up!
Then can you complete your diary, and your signs of spring diary. Each day can you try and write the day, the month and the year. What do you notice about today’s date? Can you write down all the months of the year in your best handwriting? If you like, you could make a simple calendar with the months on it, and a little picture to show what the weather might be like in that season.
Handwriting

PE

Charlotte and I have been really enjoying Cosmic Kids yoga on YouTube, it is really good. Please have a go at some, with your grown up. It’s easier than Joe Wicks, I promise!

Finally….

Can you remember when we learned about Giuseppe Arcimboldo? Could you see if you can find out (or remember!) where he is from and when he lived? Was it in the past, or now? Can you find out some facts about him? This is a good place to start…

Arcimboldo cartoon

If you like, you can create some art in the style of Arcimboldo, just as we did in class.
Ill see you again tomorrow!
Love

Mrs Wiggs. Xx

Good Morning Ash Class

I hope you had a nice weekend. It’s really strange not being able to do normal things isn’t it? Charlotte and I missed her ballet class on Saturday. We did enjoy some new things though – we made some bread and a cake, and we also learned how to play battleships on paper. It’s tricky at first but once you get the hang of it it’s really fun. If your grown up has time, they might be able to teach you, or you can learn how to play here: Battleships game

This is our last week of term, and today would have been our trip to Goodwood, so I have tried to set some work around animals and springtime.

First task:

You might have noticed that the clocks changed on Sunday, they go forward one hour. Talk to your grown up about why that is, or you can watch this episode of newsround to find out. Newsround 28.3

Spring also began on the 20th March, which was your last day at school. Please can you spend sometime today, and over this week, tracking the weather, the temperature and the signs of spring. You could do this by drawing a table, with 5 rows and 3 columns. Each day you could record the temperature (if you can take it by reading a thermometer, ace!) what the weather is, and any signs of spring that you notice when you are getting your daily exercise. For example, can you see any of the flowers that you have been learning about with Mrs Soal? Has your plant from school grown at all? Could you measure it and record that, so you can see how well it is doing.

For your next task, I need you to go here; StoriesMr Creese has put lots of videos of teachers reading stories on the blog – how exciting! I’d like you to listen to one, or all of them, and see if you can find one you really like. The password is Petworth1. Once you have chosen one you like can you write a simple book review? See if you can answer these questions;

What is the title of the book?

Who is the author?

What is the story about?

What did you like about the story?

Which character was your favourite, and why?

If you have a printer, you can print out a book review template  Book review template

Finally, some maths. Thinking back to our number work, can you have a go at the following problems. You can do all three, or just one.

Don’t forget to read every day, using your phonics to spell out. If you can, use numbots and phonicsplay to practise as well.

Thank you for all your lovely photos, please keep sending them so I can make a collage. This time is very strange, and hard, but if you need anything, you can always email me on the Ash Class email address; ashclass@petworthprimary.co.uk

Day 4 learning challenges

Dear Ash Class

I hope you have been enjoying the sunshine and having some fun with the activities I have been setting. I can see that you are working really hard and trying your best in these strange times. Today I have set some different kinds of activities.

English.

I’ve found a copy of the Wizard of Oz, told from Toto’s viewpoint. Can you listen to me reading it, and then answer the questions below. You can write the answers down if you like, or just tell your grown up what you think. Remember the story is the same as the one we read in class, just from another point of view.

Toto Story

so….

1. Who is Toto?

2. What do you think “skittering” means? As in “Dorothy was trying to shut the hens in the hen house but they were skittering about all over the place”

3. Why didn’t Toto want to help Uncle Henry?

4. What did Toto go chasing after?

5. Who is Barney?

Maths

Can you play a board game involving a die? If you don’t have a board game can you play a game with playing cards? Pick two cards without looking, lay them down together. Can you read the number? Can you make 2, 2 digit numbers and add them together.

Can you design your own board game. Write numbers to 10, 20, 50, or 100 on a track or a 100 square. You can move around with a die….but will there be challenged or problems, snakes or ladders? Will Spider-Man appear to fly you on six spaces (I’m thinking of you Archie!) or will Sir Topham Hatt stop you travelling any further (that’s you, Alex!) Any ideas you like, I would love to see them. Keep them safe and when we are back at school we will have a games day and play them all.

Activities time (Yay!)

Can you complete this Scavenger Hunt? If you’d rather play outside and save it for a rainy day, please do. Just remember to do what it says at the end!

Indoor Scavenger Hunt

Can you create a simple musical instrument that keeps a beat….a drum or a shaker? This is NOT to drive your grown ups crazy, but for a challenge on another day….I’ll keep it as a surprise!

Day 3

I’m back….bit of a cold but here I am (no temperature or cough, just a very runny nose!) Forgive my red nose! Click the Day 3 link for the video.
For mums and dads…..I have home schooled today and I can tell you, it’s a lot easier with a class of thirty! If these tasks are too much, or challenging your children to the point of anxiety, please don’t do them. Equally if children have their own ideas about what and how they would like to learn, that is great! Run with it.
I hope all are well and the isolating isn’t awful. If I can do anything to help, please drop me an email.

I am missing all the children and hope they are doing ok,

Day 2 learning challenges

Posted by mrscwiggs | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on March 23, 2020

Phew! No videos today 😀 but don’t worry, I’ll be back….

Todays tasks are as follows. Don’t worry if you can’t complete them all, or if they are too hard, or too easy! Every little thing you do is a learning opportunity. If you can, continue to look onto numbots and phonics play. Use these links:

https://play.numbots.com/#/intro
https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

For English:

How did you get on with your disgusting foodstuff? I hope it was really horrid! Today please can you think about the animals that might find and ignore the food, because it was too horrid. One is fine, two or three is great! Can you think about where they will find the food, and what might happen to it. Remember it has to link to the food. So if the food is slimy, it’s probably fallen in a pond! Who might find it in a pond? If it is dirty, it might have fallen in a hole…which animals live in a hole?

for Maths:

Some number work below, your grown up can copy them into your book, or you can as an extra challenge. Then your grown up could give you some more as a challenge. If they are easy, try the reasoning challenge below. If you email me the answers, I’ll tell you if you’re right or wrong.

Top Tip – remember which number the crocodile eats! He is quite greedy!

And a final challenge…..

Can you find out what this animal is? You’ll need to think carefully about how to describe him and then see if Google can help. If you can tell me what he eats, and how he eats it, you will get a house point!

As always, I am missing you and hope you are staying safe and well at home. Remember to work hard, and then enjoy some time doing new things.

Day one

Dear parents

Here are the first days tasks (click the link marked “Day one”) please do let me know what you think. I am happy to post them in written form if that is easier, but I will definitely do a mix of video and written posts over the course of the time we are off school. On the first day I thought it would be nice to try and talk to the children.

Hope all are well,

Mrs Wiggs x
